A temporary display of Thermionic Valves

We are fortunate to have on display at the Museum a display of Thermionic valves, courtesy of one of our members.

The collection housed in a display cabinet close to the WITCH computer, shows valves taken from a variety of equipment. Used before the development of the transistor and silicon chips, the valve was a standard component of amplifiers and oscillators and could be found in domestic radios, record players and TVs.

They played their part in computers also and visitors will see thousands of them in both the Colossus and Witch computers.
