The pressure was on to complete the new PC gallery now the fitters have completed the majority of their work. Almost all the team were involved today and we completed the following: rewiring some VGA cables, connecting up the 6 display screens to the SUN clients & networking them to the SUN server, installing the display shelving, fitting out the sheving with exhibits, reassembling the iconic PDP8 desktop machine and moving some of the hands-on machines and other equipment from other rooms in the museum. We achieved a huge amount today - an excellent effort by everyone!
We completed the moving on the remaining ICL archive cabinets from the Archive room to the research office. All that remains is moving out some of the archive boxes and the Archve is ready to have the new cabinets fitted - hopefully in the next few weeks.
As a result of an offer of additional funding during the week, planning has now started on some of the other galleries, details of which will be released in due course.
Pete H has made good progress of refitting our new volunteers' kitchen room (previously our store room!).
One of the two large interactive whiteboards has been fitted in the meeting room and is working well.
More fault finding on the Elliott 803. John W spent most of the day (with some help from John S) on trying to find an intermittent store fault but it is proving elusive.
The new phone system is taking shape with Barney & Jo running additional phone cabling around the museum.
The museum is quieter this week, probably due to the schools going back, but it was by no means empty. This was fortunate as most of the volunteers were able to do a lot of work behind the scenes.
