A surprise radio contact. On Sunday, TNMOC volunteers were making 1940s-style radio contact with continental Europe to mark the 73rd anniversary of D-Day (which is today to be exact).

Using the rather prestigious callsign GB1SOE (Special Operations Executive), they were incredulous to be contacted by a 95-year-old German amateur radio hobbyist named Rudi who just happened to have been an ex-Abwehr wartime operator!

The Abwehr was the German military intelligence network that operated from 1920-45.

John Pether and his team will be back hoping to make surprising radio contacts again later this summer - watch out for dates.
