Arduino Christmas holiday workshops

Post this page to popular social media

Ever wanted to get into the world of Arduinos but didn't know where to start? We have the workshop for you! It's suitable for all ages, but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Arduinios are electronics platforms with easy-to-use hardware and software enabling anyone to build all sorts of weird and wonderful devices.

We have designed a free Arduino workshop for complete beginners. No prior knowledge of electronics or programming is required. The workshop is free, but you will need to buy the specially discounted take-away kit.

What you will do and learn

You will start by building simple circuits and be shown how to write and download programs to the Arduino. As the workshop progresses you'll build increasingly complex circuits and programs, and by the end of the session you should be confident to progress at your own pace when you go home.

What you need

To take part in the workshop, you will have to purchase one of the kits at the museum shop at a special discount price of £55.00 (a saving of 11%). The starter kit will then be yours and you'll be able to take it home to continue to develop what you learn at the workshop. Sorry, but you cannot bring your own Arduino kit to the workshop.

The workshop is based on a starter kit supplied to us by oomlout.

We will provide a computer to write and download your programs, but you are welcome to bring your own laptop if you prefer. If you decide to bring your own laptop you might want to install the Arduino development environment from their website to save time on the day. We will show you how to configure it when you arrive.

Who the workshop is for

The workshop is suitable for all ages, however anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. While we don't presume any knowledge of electronics or programming, we do assume that you are confident in using a computer.

Summary of costs:

  • The workshop is free and limited to 6 persons.
  • The starter kit costs £55.00 and must be purchased on the day in our shop to participate in the workshop. You take the starter kit home with you.
  • There is normally an entrance fee to the museum, but if you are only coming for the workshop then entrance is free.
