As the world's oldest working digital computer, the Harwell Dekatron or WITCH computer has escaped the skip on three occasions, inspired artists, bewitched students past and present, is a double Guinness World Record holder and was seen by more than one million people around the world on its reboot. None of that surprises anyone who has seen or heard it in action. Hear the WITCH's story from:

  • the historian: Kevin Murrell tells the WITCH's history and how he rediscovered it
  • the restorer: Delwyn Holroyd tells how he led the resoration team who brought the WITCH back to life in 2012
  • the artist: John Yeadon explains how it inspired his huge canvas portraits in the 1980s and again in 2017.

See it in action and see the first-ever showing of the 1980s Portrait of the Dead WITCH alongside the 2017 Portrait of the Live WITCH.
