The National Museum of Computing announces code-breaking poetry and Atari Art Re-imagined competitions

TNMOC is kicking off two competitions for the summer targeting creatives with a passion for expression through writing and the visual arts. The Young People’s Poetry Competition asks aspiring writers to produce a piece in honour of somebody they feel deserves greater recognition, while Atari Art Re-imagined pays tribute to the pioneering artists and graphics designers who achieved that breakthrough by asking the artists of today to re-interpret a piece of classic Atari box art.

The prestigious Kids In Museums award recognise museums, galleries and heritage sites that provide a great experience for children, young people and families. It is the only museum award to be judged by families.
We’ve been celebrated for our inclusivity and diversity efforts. From holding regular Relaxed Openings that cater for the neurodiverse, to our major efforts to support girls in STEM and the free remote learning packages we have offered to hundreds of underprivileged students during the pandemic.
We now ask for families to share their experiences of visiting the museum with Kids in Museums to support our application!

TNMOC unveils an interactive online visitor experience celebrating the anniversary of one of the first commercially successful British computers.
Virtual Flossie is a 3D implementation of the ICT 1301 – a British-made computer built on pioneering transistor and memory technologies that revolutionised computing.
The 1301 also featured an award-winning design that earned it appearances in TV and films including James Bond and Doctor Who. Two hundred were sold but just four remain, with the first – that would be named “Flossie” – dodging the scrap heap three times to find a home at The National Museum of Computing.
