Atari Art Re-imagined Winners Announced

Massive congratulations to the winners of The National Museum of Computing’s Atari Art Re-imagined competition, Annabel and Alexandria!

The competition was launched to celebrate the legendary gaming brand’s 50th birthday, asking entrants to re-interpret a classic piece of Atari box-art in a medium of their choice.

The entries were assessed by age group. Annabel won the over-18 category with a striking graphic based on the best-selling 1979 arcade game Asteroids, while Alexandria won among 11-15s as well as being crowned overall winner for her dynamic interpretation of Moon Patrol.

For their outstanding and creative work, both winners will receive a £50 voucher (for art supplies or for game.co.uk), a 12-month family ticket to the museum and a goodie bag. As the overall winner, Alexandria will also have her design printed on a museum T-shirt, greeting card or tote bag, as well as receiving signed copies of the books “Art of Atari” and “Pac-man: Birth of an Icon” by Tim Lapetino, who was one of the competition’s judges.

Describing the Moon Patrol art, Tim said: “I really appreciated Alexandria's use of mixed media and three-dimensional texture for her entry. It pays homage to the original art while also remixing it into something beautiful and different.”
