System will analyse ECG results: A system based on a minicomputer and designed to analyse electrocardiograms has been announced by Cambridge Medical Instruments. Known as Cortec, the system was jointly developed by CMI and Micro Computer Systems in collaboration with Glasgow Royal Infirmary under a contract from the Scottish department of the National Health Service. At the heart of the equipment is a Micro Computer Systems Minic-1 minicomputer with 16K bytes of memory. The remaining configuration comprises a DRI fixed/removable disc drive with 4.8 Megabytes capacity, magnetic tape deck, teletype and line printer. Up to five data acquisition trolleys complete the equipment. These are used in hospital wards for gathering ECG data from patients and recording it on magnetic tape. Up to 60 ECGs per hour can be taken using one trolley, the tapes being taken to the Cortec unit for analysis. (CW 444 8/5/1975 p11.
