MDS system from Intel: A microcomputer development system designed for use with both MOS and bipolar microcomputers has been announced by Intel. Known as the Intellec MDS, the modular system costs from £2,325 and is scheduled to be delivered in the UK from this September onwards. A key feature of MDS is the multiprocessor configuration which enables systems based on Intel 8080 or Series 3000 elements to be implemented. Apart from an 8080 based CPU there is an in-circuit emulator, ICE, which is plugged directly into a user’s system. Intel is initially offering two ICE units, the ICE-80 at £654 for 8080 systems and the ICE-30 for Series 3000. ICE is said to allow a design engineer to develop and debug both the hardware and software aspects of a microcomputer system at the same time. A basic MDS system includes 16K bytes of RAM memory, 2K bytes of ROM memory and 256 bytes of erasable PROM memory. (CW 454 17/7/1975 p6)
